22 December 2023 - Midrand to Beaufort West; Day 1
Finally our family December holiday was upon us and this time we were heading further south to spend our holiday in Hermanus and not Plett as we have done for the past few years. We were certainly all looking forward to the break.
We had an early start from Midrand onto the N1 through Bloem and Colesberg and finally stopping at Karoo National Park where the late afternoon temps reminded us of Kuwait - dry and very hot. After checking in, we settled into our chalet's, cracked a cold one and headed to the pool to chill.
Back at our chalet, we sat on our patio and soaked in the Karoo landscape, such a contrast to our urban habitat in Midrand. A few House Sparrow's foraged around the braai area and what struck me was how much more a large black bib the male had, compared to those that I see in Kyalami. It is not a different sub-species, but rather just a geographic variation perhaps?
