Christmas Eve and the smell of sea air and a Mega

24 December 2023 - Hermanus; Day 3

We all slept well after the longer than planned drive yesterday and awoke for a Christmas Eve breakfast overlooking the impressive Over berg from our dining room table - now we really can relax.

After breakfast, I noticed a family of Cape Spurfowl foraging on the pavement opposite our accommodation and spent 15-minutes with them as they continued feeding

We then enjoyed the rest of Christmas Eve exploring 'downtown' Hermanus in the wind and the amazing boardwalk that runs from the New Harbour all the way to the Estuary, almost 10km of walking along the coastline - just fantastic!

My good friend Richard Crawshaw confirmed with photographs that the Buff-spotted Flufftail heard calling in the Estate where I live yesterday was still present today. Agh, this was a bird I had tried for earlier in the year in Morningside and missed. All I can do is hope that it will stay in the same dense patch until I return from our holiday in January - fingers crossed!
