13 May 2023 - Midrand
I hadn't planned this Autumn Big Day properly and was also out yesterday, so this was a quick visit to Glen Austin Pan and some resident species in Kyalami Estate ending up with a poor total of 53 species for 2-hours effort.
I'm happy to try and make a contribution to this global event even though the date is far from ideal for us in SA with respect to migrants which have all long departed.
I got most of the usual suspects at both sites and since this was more birding than photography. The highlight in terms of waterfowl was a pair of Blue-billed Teal which are not seen here too often. The disappointment was that the Maccoa Ducks seem to have disappeared.
I only managed to photograph Brown-throated Martin's of which there were plenty at the Pan and enjoyed some of the interaction between them.
