28 December 2022 - Plettenberg Bay; Day 6
I'm a sucker for sunrises, so was at the apartment window with a cup of coffee at 5:30am whilst the rest of the family slept in.

The annual Trans Agulhas starts in Plett today with the Stage 1 from Plett to Natures Valley, back to Plett for a mandatory stop before the ducks head off to finish in Mossel Bay for the first day - a total of 188km. The race starts at Central Beach next to Beacon Isle and big crowds gather to watch the start and return to the beach. Unfortunately, surf conditions were pretty flat, so not as exciting as it could be. My Blog is called Birding, Photography and Adventure - so the images of the race below fall under the Adventure category..
While waiting for the start, some Dolphins swam past, followed by a sea kayak

Tranquility before the race |
The race started at 8am sharp and there was some action in some of the small waves with the Le Mans type start

On your marks, get set, go! |
There was a bit more action when the boats returned from Natures Valley

We had a reservation for lunch at Newstead Vineyard which was relaxed and most enjoyable. We took the longer scenic drive back to Plett on the airport road and had two separate sightings of Forest Buzzard which are not always easy to connect with - the first sighting was near the airport
|
Forest Buzzard (Buteo trizonatus) |
and the second closer to Robberg that was also ringed
