31 December 2022 - Kyalami Estates
As expected not much birding or photography done in the Estate during December as we prepared for a Christmas break. I did record calling Freckled Nightjar in early evenings and also heard Diederick and Red-chested Cuckoo's. So, I managed a disappointing 57 species for the month.
For 2022 I recorded a total of 91 species in the Estate, a little down from the 103 species I recorded in 2021.
For my SA List, I recorded 454 species during our travels in 2022, up from the previous years total of 419.
In December, I only had the chance to use my camera once, when I had a male Amethyst Sunbird against dark storm clouds in my neighbours garden

I was thrilled to have my Thick-billed Weaver image selected for the 2023 Birds of Southern Africa Calendar produced by Birdlife and African Birding. I was in the esteemed company of many other accomplished South African photographers like; Richard du Toit, Albert Froneman, Richard Flack, Thinus van Staden, Gary Bogner, Chris van Rooyen and Dionne Miles. Thanks to Eve Gracie and her team for another awesome calendar
