A Greater-spotted Cuckoo had been reported a few days back in Midrand and seemingly the same individual that returns each year. It is a species that I don't have a decent image for, so I made arrangements with Rowan to see if I could connect with it in his garden.
I arrived at 5:30 and waited patiently on his patio whilst chatting. I photographed a Southern Boubou at the bottom of his garden

There were House Sparrow's in his garden which I found really interesting. We have no records of House Sparrow in Kyalami Estate, although they are easily seen in and around the neighbouring mall and garages. This is also the first one I have photographed in our area since being back!

As the sun set, we heard the Cuckoo calling some distance away, but it didnt come closer. So, I said cheers to Rowan and said Murphy would probably come into play. Lo and behold, as I got home Rowan sent me a pic of the Cuckoo back in his garden. Ah well, you cant win them all
