Waterfowl abound

18 September 2022 - Glen Austin Pan

It had been some time since I last visited the pan, so I had a quick visit today to see if there was any change in diversity and the water levels. Water levels are still high and I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not as it minimises the exposed edges for waders?

No new species were seen, but I did have Cattle Egret

Western Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis)

A small number of Glossy Ibis

Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus)

and a fair share of waterfowl; Southern Pochard

Male Southern Pochard (Netta erythrophthalma)

White-backed Duck with young

White-backed Duck (Thalassornis leuconotus)

small numbers of Cape Shoveler

Male Cape Shoveler (Spatula smithii)

Female Cape Shoveler (Spatula smithii)

and a good concentration of White-faced Ducks

White-faced Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna viduata)

Will visit again sometime in October...
