24 July 2022 - Letaba Camp, KNP; Day 2
Sadly this was a short visit and today was a travel day back to Jozi. We bid our farewells and for this trip we were 3 in the car. From Letaba we decided to exit at Orpen Gate, so it was back to Olifants Camp and then onto the Timbavati Road and past Roodewaal where we were last week. We managed to find a few Kori Bustard's again on this road

We stopped at the Timbavati Picnic Site and had better views of the Wire-tailed Swallows

Driving from the picnic site to Orpen through some great habitat we picked up a stunning Fish Eagle in great light
African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) |
Then some roosting White-backed and Hooded Vultures
White-backed (Gyps africanus) and Hooded Vulture (Necrosyrtes monachus) |
together with a single White-headed Vulture which was really a treat as their status has reached Vulnerable as their numbers have declined
White-headed Vulture (Trigonoceps occipitalis) |
I picked up a Pearl-spotted Owlet in one of the roadside trees
Pearl-spotted Owlet (Glaucidium perlatum) |
and my son found this female Red-crested Korhaan creeping quietly along the roadside edge

All to soon we reached Orpen Gate and then the long drive back home reminiscing on what were two great trips, even this shorter one
